Local Small Shop Love!

Along with my love for Birmingham and the exciting things going on in our fair city, I have been reflecting on what makes us maintain the charm that sets us apart from other larger growing cities: Small Businesses

Small businesses are the backbone of what makes Birmingham feel like home as our neighbors are the merchants we grow to love and show loyalty to. As a nod in that direction, I’m going to share with you my favorite local small shops. Some of these you may have heard of, some of them you might not have had the privilege of becoming a patron…YET. Show them a little love with me, wontcha?

1. Over the Mountain Swag

Ladies: If you love fashion like I do, you need to checkout this new small online fashion business! Owned by 2 of the most precious and fashion-forward women(Sarah Hart and Lauren Tanner) who have taken a dream and made it a reality. Their goal is to provide high end fashion options at an affordable price. #swagmorespendless  They offer free shipping and purchasing items is super easy breezy. If you live locally, these sweet ladies even offer same-day local pickup if you need your item for that hot date night or fun Girls Night Out. Their items are well selected and are unique. I bought the Mavis cuff and have gotten SO many compliments! Recently, they so very kindly named one of their tops the Paige top and of course I had to purchase that as well! I can’t wait until it comes in. Gentlemen, I don’t want to leave you out! A gift from this small shop will be sure to put a smile on any lady’s face!

2. Bare Naked Noodles

Through work, it has been a blessing to cross paths with Linda Croley, the owner of Bare Naked Noodles. Y’all, if you haven’t tried their pasta and authentic Italian cuisine, you are missing out! The pasta is handmade and the flavor is like an Italian party in your mouth! The name was derived from a brainstorming session that involved Linda and some friends talking options over a bottle of wine. They arrived at Bare Naked Noodles because the pasta is so good that it doesn’t need to get dressed. #eatbarenaked. They have opened in a new location: 5511 Highway 280 Suite 109 35242 -just up from Lee Branch. They offer lunches to go, frozen or fresh takeaway meals, catering, and pasta making classes. Planning a corporate event and need catering, call Linda, Brian, and the rest of the crew to put together a menu that won’t ever be forgotten! 205.423.5293

3. Over the Top Toffee

Lynn Woolf has been around the toffee making process for her whole life. She never really had a passion for it until she tasted it later in life and knew it was unlike anything she had tasted in comparison. The idea of sharing the product of her family recipe with others as a business idea was born! There are 3 mainstay flavors: Southern Pecan, Macadamia Mania, and Almond Bliss. During the holiday season, Peppermint Passion is available. Her toffee can be found on the shelves of places like Alabama Goods and other fine local establishments but can also be purchased in bulk as corporate gifts. It will be a gift that they will always remember. There’s nothing like that sweet buttery taste that leaves you coming back for more. #overthetoptoffee

These 3 businesses are special and unique in their own right. Their goods make me a better Birminghamian and our loyalty will ensure they thrive for years to come. Tell them I sent you! Their friendships are a little of what makes me #apaigefromthesouth
